The hybrid steel trussed concrete beams represent a structural solution widely adopted in the industrial constructions thanks to the numerous advantages due to their use, such as economic convenience, high performances and constructional speed de-riving from the partial prefabrication process and from the self load-carrying capacity of the beam in the first operative phase, prior to the in-site casting of concrete. Analytical solution for the transient response of symmetric magnetoelectric laminated beams

In this paper an analytical solution is presented for the forced vibration problem of magnetoelectric symmetric laminated beams. In deriving the mathematical model the Timoshenko’s beam theory is used and the electric and magnetic fields are assumed to be quasi-static. The model is written for a magnetoelectric sensing device by applying proper magnetoelectric boundary conditions on the beam top and bottom surfaces. The model highlights that the magneto-electro-mechanical couplings affect the bending stiffness and that the magnetoelectric inputs can be treated as equivalent bending moments. Forced vibration analyses are presented to assess the reliability of the solution.

Optimization of a thermomagnetic motor

In this paper, an approach towards the optimization of the Curie motor is presented. The approach is based on a thermal-magnetic coupled dynamic model of the motor, which is obtained by assuming the use of a ferromagnetic material working at temperatures near the Curie point. An analytical expression of the generated torque, which links this quantity to the magnetic, thermal, and geometrical parameters of the generated torque, is given. Prioritisation of alternatives with analytical hierarchy process plus response latency and web surveys

This paper introduces a new method that combines the well-known analytical hierarchy process (AHP) with a response latency metric. The response latency is the time taken by respondents to make choices over pairwise comparisons. The analytical calculation of relative importance weights of the alternatives is made by using a response latency model previously validated in several case studies. This combination aims to overcome some drawbacks of the traditional AHP related to the use of a rating scale (the so-called Saaty scale), and it is a natural way to involve response latency in established decisionmaking methods. The analytical signal is a complex representation of a time domain signal: the real part is the time domain signal itself, while the imaginary part is its Hilbert transform. Numerical Calibration of a Simplified Model for FRP Confinement of Columns

This paper presents the calibration of a simplified analytical model for concrete columns confined by fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) jackets. The model allows evaluating the increase of strength, ductility and dissipated energy without defining the lateral confinement pressure and it can be easily extended for the assessment of FRP confinement in design applications.
